Shaesa J. Lewis is a native of Birmingham, Alabama where she was educated in the Birmingham City School System. “Esa” as she is affectionately called, received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Stillman College, a Historically Black College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Shaesa also received  a M. Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama.

An educator for over fifteen years in both the Birmingham and Bessemer City School Systems, she has served as a Grade Level Chair and on the School Leadership Team.  Her proudest accomplishment as an educator is receiving the Teacher of the Year award. Once a year Shaesa takes a missionary trip to Kenya. There she teaches both secular and Biblical life lessons to help children gain confidence in themselves.

While being a teacher is more than just teaching curriculum to children, Shaesa makes it a point to share her story with struggling readers year after year. She shares her story to enlighten and boost self-confidence in children that struggle with using their voice. This book was written to help children find their voice, be bold and read aloud!

The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education. –Martin Luther King, Jr.
